Google Apps Email Aliases (Nicknames)

Nicknames are alternate email addresses (AKA aliases) you can create for users if you’d like them to be able to receive mail at another address. Heres how to add a to a users account:

  1. Click Users and groups along the top of your .
  2. Locate the user for whom youd like to enter a nickname, and click their name.
  3. Click Add a nickname.
  4. Enter the alternate username in the field under Add a nickname.
  5. Click Save Changes.

To remove a nickname:

  1. Click User accounts along the top of your control panel.
  2. Click Email Addresses.
  3. Locate the nickname (email address) to remove.
  4. Under Nicknames click Remove by the nickname (email address) to remove and the OK.

Sadly there’s still no way to view a list of nicknames and be able to change where they deliver to quickly.

Hi, thanks for the info. Any idea how to send from a nickname (address alias) using IMAP with say for example Outlook? (Using 2007 but also have 2003)

    EG:

    1) My main account is support@mydomain.com

    2) I add a nickname to this account called sales
(i.e. sales@mydomain.com) via the goggle apps web interface.

    3) Sending from the nickname address using the Google apps interface is then fine using the “From” address drop down.

    4) But how do you do this from say outlook? I have support@mydomain as my main IMAP account with its mailboxes etc. But so far if I want to send via my nickname I have only found 2 options:

    Option 1:

Create another IMAP account with the support login detail (i.e The main account) and then the nickname account details for the email address.
The downside to this, I have all the same inbox emails twice within Outlook and this just complicates things.

    Option 2:

Set up a pop3 account for the nickname account and just use this for sending emails. Any inbound emails can then be dealt with using the primary account IMAP.

Both ideas are far from idea but work, Option 2 is tidier until accidentally downloading the emails via pop3!

    Any input would be appreciated!

    Cheers

Looks like using the web page is the way to do what you want.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it.

It looks like the workaround I’m using (option 2 above) is the same as option 1 in the Google link you have provided.

    Best wishes
