Copy Google Sites to Another Domain

In a recent post Import and Export Google Sites I described a way to move Google Sites using a program. Well it turns out there’s an official, built-in way to do this. Copying a site within the same domain is easy, copying from one domain to another is another matter. Here’s how to do it.

How to copy a site from domain1.com to domain2.com

In this example the two domains are domain1.com and domain2.com. The site owners are admin@domain1.com and admin@domain2.com.

  1. In the site you wish to copy (domain1.com) go to Manage Actions > Manage Site > Sharing
  2. Enter admin@domain2.com and select “as owners” then “invite these people”
  3. Click “Sign out” then “Sign in with a different account”
  4. Now login using admin@domain2.com (you are still at https://www.google.com/a/domain1.com/…)
  5. Go to Manage Actions > Manage Site > General > Copy This Site and you should be given the option to copy the site to domain1.com or domain2.com
  6. Login to Google Sites in domain2.com and you should see the copied site
