I’m often asked “How can I set-up a simple website? Just a couple of pages and a domain name”.

There are of course many ways to set-up a simple site but recently Google has made things a little easier with Google Sites a new service that improves on its previous one called Google Page Creator.

What’s so good about using Google Sites?

• Its free
• Its from Google so its easy to use and well supported
• You can use your own domain name this means your site will be listed by search engines using your domain not Google’s. This may be tricky to set-up contact me if you need help
• You can allow other people to edit your site
• Google don’t put adverts on your pages (except a single line right at the bottom of the page ending “Powered by Google Sites”)
• Built-in “Site Search” button
• You can add YouTube and Google videos (see my demo page)
• You can add Google Gadgets

What are the disadvantages?

• The designs are limited
• You can’t use advanced website features such as Javascript
• You can’t easily put Google Adsense adverts on your pages*

All in all its a great way to run a small website for an individual, company or group.
