Embed YouTube and Other Videos Without Plugins

Really its as simple as hitting the button with the film strip icon in the “Visual” editor (not the “HTML” one), selecting “” and pasting the link.

OK, “where’s the film strip button?” you say, if you can’t see it then you need to press the following button to reveal a second row of buttons that offer more advanced editing.

Click the filmstrip button to embed video

Click the filmstrip button to video

Copy and Paste

Copy the video’s URL (not the “embed” code”) and paste in next to “File/URL” then click the Insert button. The video should now be inserted in your post. It will appear as a pale yellow box that can be resized.

It Still Won’t Work!

Your role must be at least “Editor” to be able to embed videos! If you are an “Author” doesn’t currently allow you to embed. However there is no warning, it will seem to have embeded the video but when you try to save it will just dissappear!

Other Methods

Of course there are many other ways to do this you can:

  • Paste code in to the HTML editor or
  •  use one of the many plugins

This tip apples to versions of WordPress versions 2.5 and above.
